Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre

Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre is located in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria opposite the Palace of the Oba of Beni<nowiki/>a, on Airport Road. The cultural centre was designed by Demas Nwoko and was completed in the year 1995.
The cultural centre plays host to different plays, video debuts, weddings, performances and other social events. The building which was formerly named after the former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, was designed to serve as the University of Benin theatre in 1972 but eventually it became a government funded civic structure opened in 1993. It was later renamed after Omo N’Oba Akenzua II by the former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion. The centre seats between 200 to 700 people, depending on whether the forestage and orchestra pit are in use. The structure’s two stories accommodate highly pitched seating as well as two roomy hallways sometimes used for exhibitions.
The Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki commenced renovation work on the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre as part of the preparation to host the 2019 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST). I
