Nyleen Kay Marshall

Nyleen Kay Marshall was a child who disappeared from Helena National Forest, Montana, on July 25, 1983.
Background and disappearance
Nyleen Kay Marshall was born in Clancy, Montana on 18 September, 1978. On July 25, 1983, she accompanied her family on a picnic outing in the Helena National Forest in the Elkhorn Mountains. She was playing with some other children about one hundred yards away from her family when, at approximately 1600, she vanished. An extensive search of the area turned up no clues as to her whereabouts. An unknown man wearing a jogging suit was seen nearby just before she vanished. He apparently engaged Nyleen in conversation. It is unknown whether he was connected to the dissappearance.
Possible leads
On November 25, 1985 the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received an anonymous phonecall from a man claiming he had Nyleen. In January 1986 Child Find of America received a letter from the same man. The letter contained information about the case which had not been revealed to the public. The writer said he lived off significant investment income and worked from home, and home-schooled Nyleen. He said he travelled frequently with her all over the United States and in Canada and Britain. He claimed he loved the child and could not let her go, even though he knew her family missed her. In his communications he made reference to activities he was engaging in with Nyleen, some of which could be considered sexual abuse. From January to July 1986 Child Find of America received two more letters and a further two phone calls. These calls were traced to a phone booth in Madison, Wisconsin. Subsequent to this the phone calls stopped. Authorities later got another lead in the case when Nyleen's uncle saw a composite of a man and woman wanted for child abduction in another part of the U.S., and claimed he recognised the subjects as being part of the search party that looked for Nyleen the day after her dissappearance.
Nyleen Kay Marshall has never been located. The person who wrote the letters and made the phone calls has never been identified, and it is unclear whether the individual actually had anything to do with the dissappearance. The case remains unsolved.
