Nursing Studies University of Edinburgh

The Nursing Studies program at the University of Edinburgh was the first university-level nurse education program in the UK.
History
The Nursing Studies program was established at the University of Edinburgh in 1956 with support of the Rockefeller Foundation and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The department was led, initially under the title of Nurse Teaching Unit (NTU), by Elsie Stephenson who took up her appointment of Nurse Director on June 1, 1956. The Nurse Teaching Unit was established within the Faculty of Arts and a year later the department became known as the Nursing Studies Unit.
Nursing Studies is now a department within the University of Edinburgh School of Health in Social Science, and provides nurse education in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
The current undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Nursing with honours, is a 4-year programme providing registration as an Adult Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
The Nursing Studies Association (NSA)
The Nursing Studies Association was set up in 1965 with the principle object of the association to afford regular contact between its members and to further the interests and assist in the advancement of nursing research and education.
