Numbuh One

Nigel Uno, codenamed Numbuh 1 (voiced by Benjamin Diskin) is a fictional character in Codename: Kids Next Door. He leads the Kids Next Door sector, Sector V.

His name "Uno", meaning "1" in Spanish, Italian and Latin is a play on his KND identification number.

Biography
Nigel Uno was born in England to Monty Uno and his unnamed (and mostly unseen) wife, but moved to the US when he was three years old (Operation: E.N.G.L.A.N.D.) after his father joined an American orchestra as 16th sousaphone.

Prior to the start of Season 1, Nigel had a full head of brown hair. However, he was taken prisoner by the Delightful Children from Down the Lane, leaving Numbuh 5 to choose between rescuing him and completing her mission. Numbuh 5 chose the mission, and by the time that she was able to get to Nigel, the DCFDTL had rendered him bald. .Nigel later became the leader of Sector V, with Numbuh 5 as his second in command.

For much of the series he is referenced as being in the fourth grade of Gallagher Elementary School. He also celebrated his birthday during Operation: J.E.W.E.L.S.

Personality
A workaholic, Nigel is always serious and focused on his duties as a KND operative, often putting them above his own safety and is only happy working, to the extent of being happy on a 3 day non-stop mission. He has a tendency to take things too seriously, and to work his team too hard, which can cause conflict in the ranks. Despite this, he is respected by his Sector and by KND command. His reaction to being under serious pressure tends to vary, sometimes he is calm and self assured to the point of being unflappable while at other times he loses his head and suggests 'panic!' as a strategy (though this is often when his first strategy fails).

Family

Numbuh 1's unnamed mother is occasionally referenced in the series. She is voiced by Jennifer Hale.

Nigel's father, Monty Uno (voiced by Frank Welker, made his first appearance during the Season 2 episode Operation: O.O.M.P.P.A.H., where he attempted to bond with his son by fishing with him. Although resentful at this, Numbuh 1 tried to get his father back when he was later stolen by a boy named Willard, who believed his father was gone forever.

In Operation: H.O.L.I.D.A.Y. it is revealed that Numbuh 10 of Sector L is Nigel's cousin (Numbuh 10's father is Nigel's mother's brother)

During the feature length movie Operation: Z.E.R.O., it is revealed that Nigel's father is the legendary Numbuh 0, the founder of the 7th (and current) age of KND. At the same time, it is also revealed that the villain Father is really Benedict Uno, Montgomery's younger brother and thus, Nigel's uncle. Hence, Father's father, Grandfather, is Nigel's actual paternal grandfather. This would also make the Delightful Children from Down the Lane his adoptive first cousins.

Relationships
Sector V
Numbuh 1 maintains a fairly good relationship with the rest of Sector V, although he continually gets on the other's nerves with his obsession with the KND and doing missions, while the others are more laidback. Numbuh 1 has been Numbuh 2's friend since kindergarten, once saved Numbuh 4 from a group of bullies on his first day of school, and has known Numbuh 5 since the time he started training for the Kids Next Door.
Lizzie Devine
Numbuh 1 had a girlfriend for most of the series named Lizzie Devine, introduced in Operation: L.I.Z.Z.I.E. Lizzie was controlling and often competed against the KND for Numbuh 1's time. She finally pointed this out to Numbuh 1 in Operation: G.I.R.L.F.R.I.E.N.D. and broke up with him.

Alternate Versions
Negative Numbuh 1: (presumed real name Legin Onu) is a member of the Destructively Nefarious Kids, the (formerly) evil counterparts to Sector V. As the opposite to Numbuh 1, Negative Numbuh 1 is acts scared and rarely, if ever, talks with any confidence. He also is a bad actor, since he almost gave himself and his ex-girlfriend Eizzil (the opposite of Numbuh 1's girlfriend Lizzie Devine) away when they were pretending to be Numbuh 1 and Lizzie.

In a fictional future created using Chester's Happy Headband, Nigel is President of the US, and is married to Lizzie Devine with a son named Shirley, (prefers to be called Viggo), who is KND operative Numbuh 1600.

Trivia
*Tom Kenny was original cast to play Nigel.
*Nigel is the only member of Sector V without a brother or sister. His only child status may reflect that he is Numbuh One.
*Nigel is left handed during Operation: F.O.U.N.T.A.I.N., but right handed during Operation: Q.U.I.E.T (this may be an error, or he may be ambidextrous).
*Nigel keeps a secret blue Rainbow Monkey plush under his pillow.
*Like most kids, Nigel has his own embarrassing moments such as he doesn't like to expose his underwear to anybody. However, in Operation B.U.T.T, he has appeared naked briefly and during a part when the Kids Next Door finds an envelope containing a letter and a photo, it is revealed that Nigel has large buttocks.
*In Operation: D.I.A.P.E.R. Numbuh 1 has a horrible singing voice, however in Operation: L.O.V.E. he sang just fine.
*In Operation B.R.I.E.F. Numbuh 1 wears plain white underwear, but in Operation B.U.T.T. it is revealed that he wears Rainbow Monkey underwear.
