Number One Rand

The Number One Rand is the first coin ever earned (or stolen) by Flintheart Glomgold. It has made, so far, only two known appearances. Both under Don Rosa. Appearances Return to Plain Awful In Return to Plain Awful, this rand makes a cameo appearance and has nothing to do with the story. A Little Something Special In A Little Something Special, Glomgold teams up with the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell on a plan made by Blackheart Beagle. Magica, like always, is after the Number One Dime, as it's the first coin ever earned by the richest duck/man on Earth. However, as Scrooge McDuck points out, the Dime will lose such status once the Beagle Boys steal his money. Not having any idea of how to power up her amulet, Magica gives the Dime back in exchange for an advice. The advice was using Flintheart's Number One Rand. Controversy A controversy about Flintheart Glomgold's first coin being called a Rand is based on the fact Rosa'a stories usually take place in the 1950s and the South African rand was only introduced in 1961. Until then, the South Africans utilized the South African pound, as evidenced in The Second-Richest Duck, when Scrooge says he has three cubic acres of money in his Money Bin and Flintheart asks how much is this in pounds and shillings.
