Founded in 2000, the company provides insight into the financial value of technology to both vendors and users of technology. Nucleus Research is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy; as of 2020, it is the only technology research firm registered with that organization.
In 2002, in one of its first high-profile ROI reports, Nucleus published research stating that 61% of organizations listed as reference customers on Siebel's Web site had not achieved a positive return on investment from their Siebel deployments,<ref name:01 /> creating news coverage of the topic and Nucleus's research approach.<ref name:02 />
Since that time, the firm has published more than 1,000 ROI case studies across more than 90 industries and vertical markets.
Starting in 2011, Nucleus Research began publishing its Value Matrix<ref name=:03 /> series, industry-specific roundups segmenting competitors based on usability, functionality and the value that customers realized from each product's capabilities, measured with Nucleus’ ROI methodologies. Each year the firm publishes Value Matrices for more that 18 business technology markets.
