Nu-Rave is an umbrella term being used to describe the genres of Hardcore Breaks, J-tek and Rave Breaks. These genres, although distinct in sound from each other, all attempt to combine the Old Skool Rave sound with modern production standards. It is a far reaching scene gaining popularity in France, Spain and Poland with over thirty labels putting records out. DJs as diverse as Slipmatt from SL2 and Randall have begun playing Nu-Rave and the sound has been featured on several high profile compilations such as Ministry Of Sound's recent "Rave Nation: The Anthems" and releases through Nu Urban who since 2006 have had a full time member of staff dedicated to the distribution of Nu-Rave. Several large online record stores such as IMO have dedicated Nu-Rave sections. Drum and bass magazine Knowledge featured a two page article on Nu-Rave in the May 2008 issue with interviews from Slipmatt, Randall, Enzyme and Malice and a piece about the history of the scene. There has also been a "Nu-Rave News" section in ATM Magazine on at least three occasions.
According to nu-rave.com "Nu-Rave is the generic term used to describe the latest generation of Rave music being produced today" and that "the music takes the best from the original Rave scene and brings it bang up-to-date". The Knowledge article asserts that Nu-Rave can be seen as "a melting pot for the many different sounds and ideas that have evolved over the years, which in the process comes up with something new and fresh for today's generation".
