The RX-93 ν Gundam (Nu Gundam) is a mobile suit designed by Yutaka Izubuchi and piloted by protagonist Amuro Ray in the animated movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. The word Nu is derived from the Greek letter (ν) and resembles the English letter "v". Description The ν Gundam is Amuro's personal mobile suit during the second Neo Zeon movement against arch-rival and Neo Zeon leader Char Aznable. Although it is partially finished at the time of its deployment, it proves to be a formidable Gundam. Incorporating technologies secretly provided to Anaheim Electronics by Char, the ν Gundam is able to use weapons, fin funnels, and channel the emotions and Newtype energies of a suitable Newtype pilot. Despite its name, the fin funnels equipped on the ν Gundam are actually bits, since they have built-in generators instead of energy-capacitors like most funnels. While this made them more expensive to construct, it allows less modules for equipping than the standard, thus has an enormous benefit by giving the fin funnels a tremendously long operational time. Circling the battlefield on their own, the fin funnels can be utilized in far more creative and strategic ways than standard funnels. The actual beam of the fin funnels is also larger and stronger, due to each containing its own generator. The fin funnels also have the ability to generate a unique beam shield, known as the "Fin Funnel Barrier", providing a defense against both beam and solid projectiles. Although these unique funnels prove incredibly effective and flexible in purpose, they are also much larger than the standard funnel, making them easier targets to destroy if used too brashly. When combined with legendary ace pilot Amuro's immense skill and experience, this powerful state of the art Gundam is able to almost single handedly keep the Neo Zeon's elite forces at bay, and its unique Psycommu system and Psycho Frame is put to the test by Amuro for this harrowing battle. Amuro used the ν Gundam in his final battle against Char, where he defeats his enemy’s MSN-04 Sazabi, after which he uses his Gundam to stop the asteroid base Axis from falling onto Earth. The Psycho Frame incorporated into the mobile suit causes a powerful phenomenon, as a result of the wish of all humanity, driving Axis away from Earth. Unfortunately, both Amuro and Char vanish with the Gundam. In the original novel to Char's Counterattack called Beltorchika's Children, Amuro faces Char's MSN-04-2 Nightingale with the Hi-ν Gundam, the fully developed version of the ν Gundam. Although never seen on screen, this mobile suit is considered one of the most powerful in the Universal Century timeline and quite popular, often seen in video game series' such as the famous Super Robot Wars series. It's also appears in all three title of Another Century's Episode video game series. The ν Gundam is one of the most prolific and well known Gundam designs in the metaverse's history. In fact, even more than a decade after the film's debut, the ν Gundam is often seen as the representative mecha for all Gundams in general, being Amuro's ultimate mobile suit. The ν Gundam is also one of the only Gundams to use funnel-type equipment (cordlessly remote controlled beam firing) in the Universal Century, with the others being the variants of ν Gundam, namely the Mass Production ν Gundam and the complete version of the ν Gundam, the Hi-ν Gundam (the Psyco Gundam MK-II with reflector bits and the V2 Gundam with its mega beam shield utilizing bits that cannot attack, but only forms protective shielding around a selected area, are generally not considered funnel-type weaponry). Variations FA-93HWS ν Gundam Heavy Weapons System (HWS) Type Anaheim Electronics' plan to improve the ν Gundam by equipping it with removable chobam armor to increase its protection. This variant of the ν Gundam replaces the original shield with a larger one containing built-in mega partical cannons similar to the one on Sazabi. An additional heavy beam rifle is added for overall firepower of the ν Gundam. However, the Heavy Weapons System was never completed due to ν Gundam's rush deployment and eventual MIA status. This variant first appears as part of the original design series by Yutaka Izubuchi. RX-93 ν Gundam Double Fin Funnel Type This is basically the RX-93 ν Gundam, but with the beam sword's recharge rack removed to carry six additional fin funnels. Unfortunately, this configuration is never used in combat. This variant also appears in the , but its original design is by Hitoshi Fukuchi. RX-93-2 (RX-93-ν-2) Hi-ν Gundam The completed version of the ν Gundam appearing in the novel Beltorchika's Children, the Hi-ν shares the same physical characteristics as the original ν Gundam, but sports an exclusive white and light-blue color scheme and features more powerful boosters around its chassis. Its most obvious difference is its distinct back-mounted thrusters and revised Fin Funnels. The basic backpack unit of the prototype ν Gundam is replaced with a dual long booster system, with a protruding long thruster unit between them. For added speed and maneuverability, the Hi-v can be equipped with two optional long propellant tanks. The Fin Funnels are attached to the top boosters in a downward angle, three on each booster. This makes the Hi-ν appear to have elegant wing-like protrusions from the back. Aside from the visual differences, the Hi-ν Gundam is armed with the regular head-mounted vulcans and carries a pair of beam sabers (stored in a special rack on the Gundam's left arm), a right forearm-mounted machine-cannon, a unique, customized beam rifle, an improved hyper bazooka and the powerful hyper mega bazooka launcher, the latter an improved model of the mega bazooka launcher used by the MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki during the Gryps Conflict. The hyper mega bazooka launcher connects directly to the Londo Bell flagship reactor and is powerful enough to destroy a fragment of the asteroid Axis. The Hi-v Gundam is one of the more popular variation-mobile suits among fans, other than the G-Generation titles, and is also a hidden unit in many Super Robot Wars series. Many garage kits were produced in the years, before the unit received a new design for its Master Grade release in late February 2007 (the difference between this and the older version is a more stream-lined design, akin to the original ν Gundam, reduction in overall mass and a revised backpack unit). RX-94 Mass Production Type ν Gundam Anaheim Electronics' mass production mobile suit intended to replace the RGM-89 Jegan. Featuring a turquoise shade of blue and light-blue, it is based on the ν Gundam but with some features, like the Psycho Frame, removed. The fin funnel backpack can be swapped with an incom backpack for use by normal pilots. However, its high performance came with high cost and mass production was canceled, though a few were produced (one appears in the Gundam side-story manga REON). This variant first appears as part of , designed by famed mechanical designer Kunio Okawara, but has garnered more attention in other media, such as the Super Robot Wars series as playable units.
