No left Turns is the blog of the Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University. Origins The blog's name is borrowed from the slogan of John Ashbrook's 1972 Presidential Primary bid against Richard Nixon, which championed conservative principles such as limited government, reduced federal spending and uncompromising anti-communism. The Ashbrook Center is a conservative academic center dedicated by Ronald Reagan on May 9, 1983. Purpose In accordance with its collegiate and political roots, No Left Turns provides daily commentary from a conservative and academic perspective. While particular writers lend specific areas of expertise to the blog (such as foreign affairs, law, the family and energy policy), the principles of the American founding remain at the core of its mission to refine and enlarge the sphere of sound political thinking. The site is a leading internet-based resource within the conservative movement, cited often by nationally-recognized conservative groups. Power Line (crowned Time's Blog of the Year) lists No Left Turns among its favorite blogs and Family Research Council features many articles from No Left Turns in its semi-annual Social Conservative Review. Authors The site is administrated by Dr. Peter W. Schramm, Executive Director of the Ashbrook Center, who also provides regular commentary. Other contributers are Ashbrook Adjunct Fellows and, often, distinguished members of conservative or academic institutions. These include Steven Hayward (American Enterprise Institute); Peter Lawler (Berry College); Joseph Knippenberg (Oglethorpe University); Julie Ponzi (Claremont Institute); Richard Adams; Ken Thomas; Justin Paulette (Attorney in International and Constitutional Law); Pete Spiliakos; William Voegeli (Claremont Review of Books); John Marshall; Mackubin Owens (Naval War College); Roger Beckett (Ashbrook Center); Robert Alt (Heritage Foundation); Lucas Morel (Washington and Lee University); David Tucker (Naval Postgraduate School); Robinson O'Brien-Bours (Heritage Foundation); John Moser (Ashland University); Jeff Sikkenga (Ashland University); David Foster (Ashland University). Benjamin Kunkel publishes and maintains the site. The diverse assemblage of authors routinely publish in newspapers and magazines, as well as appear on radio and television.
