Early life
Malik was born in Delhi, India. Both of Malik's parents are doctors by profession. When Malik was 15, he moved to Toronto but eventually moved back to Delhi.
In 2009, Malik joined Cyanide, an alternative rock band from Delhi. With Malik on their team, the band released the full-length album “Sugarcoated” in 2011. While talking to Rolling Stone India, Malik said that as a kid he loved Cyanide, and joining it was like a dream fulfilled.
He has also worked as a guitarist with the hard rock band Half Step Down.
While working as an album producer for The Uncertainty Principle(TUP), a Delhi-based band, Malik was approached by Raghav Meattle, an ex-band member of TUP. Soon the duo released their first song 'Since Memories Remain' under the act named Meattle & Malik.
As part of his music production company StudioFuzz, Malik and his partners, Arsh Sharma and Srijan Mahajan composed the music for the English film When the Joker gets Joking. In 2011, the trio composed the music for the Punjabi short film Mast Qalandar.
Malik has also worked as a conceptual artist for a number of music projects. In 2013, Meattle & Malik released a song "Boring I Love You" which features five deaf students who sing the song lyrics in sign language while the voice-over is done by Meattle & Malik's vocalist Raghav Meattle. The inspiration for the song came from the real-life love story of a deaf couple. Malik dedicated this song to disabled people.
