New Gaupher Eels

is an anime series created by writer and animator Takeshi Ohba, and produced by Sunrise. Unlike many other animes, it is not based on a manga series but was written directly for the television screen. The series is not very well known outside of Japan, and no official release or airing has been made outside of the nation, the English title being the unofficial fan translation. The plot circles around the young boy Tsugumi who accidently gets in the way of a criminal gang, bearing the same name as the show, performing a bank robbery. He is kidnapped and held hostage, and the story follows him as he tries to escape from the gang's clutches.
Production
The show has not been much of a success even in its homeland and was cancelled shortly after the tenth episode was aired. The creator of the series later joined forces with the animators of the more well-known series of Cowboy Bebop.
