Nau Gaja Road

Nau Gaja Road is the name of a one-kilometer stretch of road in Gwalior, India, it literally means the "nine-yard road" in the Hindi.

On one side of this road there is a grave situated on an elevated platform. The grave is nine yards long (around 27 feet), if the length of the platform is taken as the measure. Thus the name Nine-yard Road.

The memories of the person buried here are lost in antiquity, but going by the sheer size of the grave he must have been an illustrious person of substantial means. He was definitely a Muslim because the grave is under the possession of Muslims who offer prayers there regularly. The grave is also a reminder of the period when Muslims ruled the Northern states of India and enjoyed unusual affluence.

Further research into the history of this unusually large grave can reveal many interesting historical and social facts about the India of 1800s and before.
