MyDJSpace

MyDJSpace (MyDJSpace.net) is a MySpace-esque social networking website targeted towards a global demographic of users who are either disc jockeys, music producers, or people who frequent dance clubs and music events. Furthermore, it is the first social network for DJs. It’s based out of Essex, England, UK where its founder and owner Dean Martin (DJ Deelow) and co-owner Scott O’Connell (Contemptx) reside. The site features include personal profiles, blogs, groups, forums, music, and a resource section that provides DJ news, music reviews, DJ equipment reviews, and how to guides. As of October 31, 2008, MyDJSpace has approximately 21,561 members in its user base.

History
As a user on MySpace, Dean Martin a then 24 year old amateur DJ and university student majoring in internet engineering (BEng) and e-commerce technology (masters degree) from Essex, England had received many online friendship invitations from other DJs. He came to the idea that there should be a similar site that can benefit DJs across the globe. In trying to create the ultimate DJ portal, the idea was taken to his friend Scott O’Connell who had great experience in marketing, and the funds to back the project. Dean Martin would do most of the site coding with assistance from Scott.

MyDJSpace went live on April 20, 2006. The first advertising of the site that was spreading across the internet caught the attention of a young internet forum creator from Newcastle name Glen Allsopp. Keen on the idea of the site, he wanted to become a part of what he thought could potentially turn into something massive. Glen soon became in-charge of MyDJSpace’s online forum and helped to maintain it as an administrator. He also assisted with site promotions and helped with search engine optimizing. Now Glen has actively left the site as a forum maintainer due to his physical moving from England to South Africa.

Competition
Summer of 2008 saw the launch of myDJspace.com, an Australia based DJ social networking site of the same name as MyDJSpace.net which launched two years prior. The two sites are not affiliated with one another on any level.
