My pressure

My Pressure - a game played with a standard football and involving three or more participants in which each player attempts to retain possession of the ball for as long as possible. To do this the player uses ball skills, agility, strength and pace to beat (get past) his/her opponents and retain possession.

Typically the game is played using the center circle of a full sized football pitch, utilizing the already present white circle as playing area. If a center circle is not available an area of similar size can be marked out using objects such as cones or with a very long piece of string or rope.

The rules of My Pressure are typically universal, however there are some variations to the rules, which tend to change depending on the location. A player will start with the ball in their possession and attempt to move around the play area whilst retaining possession from his/her opponents. When the ball goes out of the play area (as with football, 100% of the ball must be over the line) then play ceases and must be restarted from the point at which the ball exited the play area. Deciding which player should start with possession depends on the circumstances on which the ball exited. If the ball was kicked away cleanly from the player in possession then possession on the restart will be awarded back to the player who originally had possession. However if the ball has left the play area after being kicked away by another player but not cleanly (as in, the ball is touched again before it leaves the play area - commonly known as deflected) then typically the player making the tackle will be awarded possession upon the restart of play. If the player in possession for any reason loses control of the ball by their own fault or by pressure applied by opponents and it leaves the play area then possession upon the restart is awarded to the player who has applied the greatest amount of pressure to the ball possessor - whether it be from direct challenges for the ball or merely proximity. The vast 'grey area' this creates in terms of deciding who should be awarded possession upon the restart is the reason for the game's name. This is due to when the ball leaves the play area, the player(s) who feel they should be awarded possession will shout out 'My pressure!' as a claim to the other players that they feel they did what was required to be awarded possession upon the restart. In the event of controversy involving which player should be awarded possession on the restart, a vote is usually taken to decide.

Fouls that are committed on the player in possession are dealt with by the cease of play and its restart with the victim of the foul awarded possession. In terms of a set 'goal' in My Pressure it is mainly for that of keeping possession for as long as possible while beating as many opponents and as many times as possible using the wit and skill of the player in possession. The game will usually end when all players agree that they are too tired to continue.
