The Music Is Revolution Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides funds and materials to public school teachers to restore, supplement, or augment music education programs. The organization was launched by founding member of proto-punk band MC5 bassist Michael Davis and his wife, Angela in Los Angeles, California following a serious motorcycle crash on a Los Angeles freeway in May 2006. Board of Directors Upon launch, the board of directors included Michael Davis, Steve Aoki of Dim Mak Records, graphic artist Shepard Fairey, punk rock vocalist Richard Manitoba, poet and activist John Sinclair, pro skater Corey Duffel, musician Jake Cavaliere, business owner Ed Chalfa, Brian Perera of Cleopatra Records, english professor Mathew Bartoviak Ph.D., Robert Arce, realtor Ryan Dupuis, Kubo, and Christian & Karine LaCroix of Musiques en Stock Festival. Cause According to Michael H. Davis of the Foundation's website, the Foundation "is dedicated to supporting music education programs in public schools. The Music Is Revolution provides funds and materials to teachers to restore, supplement, or augment music education programs. The Foundation also conducts awareness campaigns, musical instrument drives and fundraising events. At the core of the Music Is Revolution is a dedication to integrity and ethics as well as a commitment to increasing the cultural and academic prosperity of this and future generations." As of 2011, the Music Is Revolution Foundation operates within public school systems at classroom level, by administering music program grants of up to $500.00. Teachers fitting the public K-12 guidelines may apply, and may choose to involve parents and/or students in the grant writing process.
