Murphy Smith

Murphy Smith (born August 25, 1987) is an American baseball pitcher currently with the Buffalo Bisons in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
He attended Shenendehowa High School and then Binghamton University, whence he was drafted in the 13th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics. In his junior year, he was named the America East Conference Pitcher of the Year.
Smith spent six years in the Athletics' system, mostly as a starting pitcher, posting a 36-43 record there. In 2011, he played for the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League, a post-season league for highly touted prospects to get further seasoning. In 2012 and 2013, he was a Texas League Mid-Season All-Star; he was also a Pitcher of the Week in 2013.
He was released by the Athletics in April 2015 and signed with the Blue Jays. He earned another Pitcher of the Week honor in 2015, going 6-6 with a 3.51 ERA in 19 games. In 2016, he converted to relief pitching full-time, going 4-5 with a 1.48 ERA in 43 appearances between the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Triple A Buffalo Bisons, earning a spot on the Eastern League All-Star team. The single game he played for Buffalo was his first taste of Triple A. Following 2016, he became a free agent, but was re-signed by the Blue Jays in December.
