History
Mumbai United FC is an Indian based
football club that was founded in 1988.
Based in Mumbai, it is one of the historic
clubs of the City. Founded
in 1988 Mumbai United Football Club has
its own underdog story.
It was founded by Mr. Radhu Pradhan in
1988 as Radhu XI which then was in the 5th
division of the MDFA league. For the first
few years the team faced a lot of
difficulties and struggled to win. The team
was renamed as Holy Family FC after the
training ground on which the team trained.
That is when it all changed. The team
received a series of promotions on winning
the titles of the respective leagues. On
winning the Senior Division and qualifying
for the Elite division (topmost division) the
team was renamed as Haywards 2000 Holy
Family FC on tying up with the then
sponsors Shaw Wallace. During its very
first year in the Elite division the team
defeated all the High End Football Clubs
like Air India writing its own underdog story
entering the final in which it lost against
Mahindra United who not only won the
MDFA league but also were the lleague
Champions of that season. Until then the
team was crowned champion
consecutively in the respective divisions.
In 2005 the team was then renamed as
Mumbai United FC. The team went on to
play the AIFF 2nd Division lleague in 2010.
