Mumbai United Athletic Club is an Indian association football club based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The club has formally played in the I-League 2nd Division alongside the MDFA Elite Division History Mumbai United FC is an Indian based football club that was founded in 1988. Based in Mumbai, it is one of the historic clubs of the City. Founded in 1988 Mumbai United Football Club has its own underdog story. It was founded by Mr. Radhu Pradhan in 1988 as Radhu XI which then was in the 5th division of the MDFA league. For the first few years the team faced a lot of difficulties and struggled to win. The team was renamed as Holy Family FC after the training ground on which the team trained. That is when it all changed. The team received a series of promotions on winning the titles of the respective leagues. On winning the Senior Division and qualifying for the Elite division (topmost division) the team was renamed as Haywards 2000 Holy Family FC on tying up with the then sponsors Shaw Wallace. During its very first year in the Elite division the team defeated all the High End Football Clubs like Air India writing its own underdog story entering the final in which it lost against Mahindra United who not only won the MDFA league but also were the lleague Champions of that season. Until then the team was crowned champion consecutively in the respective divisions. In 2005 the team was then renamed as Mumbai United FC.
