MS Paint Adventures

MS Paint Adventures is a series of webcomics created by Andrew Hussie, and hosted on the website of the same name. The comics on the site, which are referred to as adventures, are done in a format atypical to webcomics that is reminiscent of a gamebook. In addition, much of the story of the comics is guided by suggestions of readers. The name of the site was chosen to reflect the style of the drawings used in the comics, which is simplistic and made to appear as if they were drawn with Microsoft Paint, although only the very first comic was in fact drawn in MS Paint. As of December 2009, there are four such comics, two of which are indefinitely on hold, and one that has concluded. These four comics are Jailbreak, Bard Quest, Problem Sleuth and Homestuck.
The comic has garnered attention from other webcomics such as VG Cats, which had a link to MS Paint Adventures on the side for several months, Dinosaur Comics, which has linked to it on a number of occasions, and gaming-related sites, such as a mention on 1UP.com's Retronauts blog and indie gaming blog .
Format
MS Paint Adventures is presented in a different format from most comic series. Most comic strips are a sequence of one or more panels, generally containing dialog, and sometimes, usually when there is only one panel, a caption beneath. MS Paint Adventures uses a variation on the single panel style, such that individual pages generally only have single panels, and the captions are broader descriptions. Each page also generally corresponds to an action directed at characters within the comic, although some actions are split up over multiple pages.
Each page is typically a fairly large image. Some pages have multiple images, or animations. Starting with the fourth adventure, Homestuck, Flash animations began to be employed, some of which contain music created by fans of the comic. Although the first page of Jailbreak was created with MS Paint, all subsequent pages have been made with Photoshop or Flash, owing to the fact that it would have been needlessly difficult to create the whole comic with MS Paint
Homestuck
Homestuck is the current adventure. It started on April 13, 2009, although an earlier version of the comic (now referred to as the "Homestuck Beta") made entirely in Flash was started on April 10, 2009. This version was quickly rebooted on April 13 for being too time-consuming to create. The numbers 4 and 13, in reference to the date the comic started, permeate the comic. For example, there are four main characters, each of whom is 13 years of age.
