Movie: the Movie is an internet comedy film currently in production by junior scriptwriter, director, singer, and actor Jeff Burgess. Movie: the Movie parodies popular, generic Hollywood movies of this generation in which someone goes on a quest and they all live happily ever after, with a couple of musical numbers inserted for unknown reasons. The movie also stars Jonathan Marks, Ian Elliott, Nick Lacek, and Dan Micco. The full version will be released sometime in the Spring of 2009.
Synopsis One fine 2006 morning, a young man wakes up right after sunrise and proceeds outside of his home. His name is Jeff. He knows that its time. So Jeff rides his bicycle over to his friends house. His friend, Ian, agrees to make the movie, even though Jeff has woken him up at five oclock in the morning. So the two write a movie, and they gather their friends to make it. The only problem, is that one of the friends, Jonathan, thinks the movie is a piece of crap, and refuses to be in it. Then, he comes up with the idea to sabotage the movie. Will he succeed, or will Jeff, Ian, and their entourage of friends finish this film? Find out, in MOVIE: THE MOVIE!
Characters Ian is the stereotypical straight man character of the group, while Jeff acts as comic relief. Jonathan is the stereotypical villain. Daniel works as a side-kick, and Nick acts almost as the MacGuffin.
History of Film The film was originally written in 2006 under the title, "Ian's Big Movie." The title was later changed in 2007 to "Ian's Adventure Through Time." Both titles had completely different stories. In the end, writer Jeff Burgess and Co-writer Ian Elliott decided to combine both ideas to create the current script which became "Movie: the Movie" in 2008. Before shooting in Summer 2008, more changes were made to the film, to give it more substance. There are two musical numbers, "We Make a Movie," and, "We're Gonna Beat Jonathan."
The Communist Subplot The song, "We're Gonna Beat Jonathan," was originally titled, "Not Exactly Communism," before the script changes of Spring 2008. Burgess had written a subplot about how the only way to beat Jonathan in the film was to adapt to a Communist government style. However, Burgess thought the idea would be rather offensive to some, and scrapped it.
== The Fantasticks! == Several times throughout the film, characters mention "a VHS copy of The Fantasticks." The Fantasticks is a 2000 American musical film directed by Michael Ritchie. Though the tape is seen, and put into VCRs, no footage from the film is seen. Audio is heard of a brief song, but it is no song found in The Fantasticks. The song is, in fact, made by Jeff Burgess (called, "The Fantastiks!")
