mondayMEDIA is an audio and video production company that produces and distributes a wide variety of material on CD and DVD ranging from international music from Tibet and Samoa, to lectures on philosophical and religious subjects by Huston Smith, Christopher Isherwood, Aldous Huxley, and Swami Prabhavananda, to a political presentation by Chalmers Johnson, to DVD of the last poetry reading by beat-era poet Charles Bukowski. The company has its roots reaching back to the 1970, when founder Jon Monday began doing field audio and video recording of music concerts and lectures around the Los Angeles area. Most of those recordings were kept in an archive until 2005 when the company also became a record and DVD label, producing and distributing the products to main stream distributors, book stores, and online catalogs. In addition to in-house productions for release on the mondayMEDIA and GemsTone label, the company also contracts to outside companies for production services including the Esalen Institute. Current projects include a documentary on media consolidation titled Save KLSD: Media Consolidation and Radio, including interviews with radio and TV personalities Bree Walker & Phil Donahue, Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman, former San Diego City Attorney Mark Aguirre, City Councilwoman Donna Frye, Rep. Bob Filner, KLSD talk host Stacy Taylor, Air America host Jon Elliot, FCC Commissioner Jon Adelstein, and many others. Also currently being produced is the authorized biographical documentary of Huston Smith, the leading expert on the World’s Religions, who was profiled in a five-part Bill Moyers special on PBS.
