Modularist

A modularist is an individual who plays the modular synthesizer. A more precise description of the term synthesist (a person who plays the synthesizer), since a modular synthesizer is also a synthesizer. The terms synthesist and modularist arose from the acknowledgment of synthesizers as a valid musical instrument. The skill set and craft of a modularist can have little overlap with a pianist, if a keyboard is used to play the modular instrument. However usually the skill set compared to other players like guitarists, violinists, etc is very different, since there is always technical knowledge about electronic sound creation required, but not necessarily musical knowledge about notes,scales, etc.. The playing techniques are extremely varied depending on the input interface used to control the modular synthesizer. There is always a lot of interaction with the pots and sliders on the modules themselves. The notion of adjusting values with the modular synthesizers interface becomes part of the playing and performance.
