Mo Fanning is a British writer of contemporary commercial fiction. He was born in the West Midlands in 1964, though currently lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with his partner.
Mo began writing in his early twenties, though admits that much of what he first produced was unpublishable: 'There was a supposed comedy thriller about a journalist who accidentally finds herself being hunted down by a Manchester arm of the Triad,' he says, 'it was deeply unfunny and utterly unthrilling.'
After initially training as a teacher, Fanning went on to abandon the classroom and drift aimlessly from job to job, flipping burgers, selling advertising, managing a theatre box office and answering letters from irate holidaymakers. Then he saw the light and returned to writing, finishing his first full length novel, 'Bingo Wings' in 1998. 'Finishing it is a million miles from publishing it or actually producing anything of value,' he admits.
In 2007, Mo signed up with the Annette Green Literary Agency and is now represented by Annette herself worldwide. 'The Armchair Bride' was his first novel for the agency, going on to be shortlisted for the Arts Council England 'Book of the Year' award. In 2008, he will complete work on his second novel, 'Ghost.Story'.
Mo writes contemporary romantic comedy that has already received praise from many within the industry. He also contributes to and helps maintain the emerging writers' peer review site, The Book Shed.
