Missouri Eat Smart Child Care

Missouri Eat Smart Child Care is an initiative launched by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) as part of the Child and Adult Care Food Program designed to reduce childhood obesity starting at the preschool level. The focus of the Missouri Eat Smart Child Care’s focus is on improving the quality of meals and nutritional environment in childcare settings. The guidelines encourage childcare providers to plan menus that are consistent with the 2005 US Dietary Guidelines. They make nutrition recommendations at three levels: minimum, intermediate and advanced and promote the best possible nutritional intake for children. Environmental factors that relate to nutrition and meal delivery are also addressed.
