Minor technology in Sonic the Hedgehog

In the fictional universes of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, there exist a variety of important technology.

Sonic the Hedgehog video games
Prison Eggs
The Prison Eggs are large capsules created by Dr. Eggman to hold prisoners. They are generally seen to contain small animals such as Flickies, later to be implemented into Badniks. The Prison Eggs have appeared in most Sonic games, where they appear in the end of a level, often right after beating the boss (Eggman himself). Sonic then jumps on the large switch of the Prison Egg, opening it and freeing the animals. Prison Eggs change their shape slightly from game to game, but always have the same purpose. They have not been used in any 3D Sonic games since Sonic Adventure, but appears in most Sonic Advance games for the Game Boy Advance.

Doomsday Project
Dr. Robotnik's ultimate plan to complete his scheme of turning Mobius into a lifeless wasteland. Deployed in the form of pods, the Doomsday Project unleashes devastating energy beams. Each pod is virtually indestructible, able to endure even explosions at point blank.

The Doomsday Project's prototype model was first deployed against the Wolf Pack. Sonic the Hedgehog, Sally Acorn, and Antoine D'Coolette joined their canine allies in disabling the pod, though they were nearly defeated and captured by Snively Kintobor.

As part of his final plan for the Project, Robotnik erected an enormous tower to deploy thousands of pods across Mobius by opening subterranean tunnels. Combining forces, all the Freedom Fighters launched an assault on the tower. However, they proved unable to destroy the machine until Sonic and Sally utilized the energies of the Deep Power Stones. The tower was then destroyed, seemingly taking Dr. Robotnik with it.

Freedom Stormer
The Freedom Stormer is a glider like aircraft that Sonic thought was an "air jalopy" that was only seen in the episode Sonic and the Secret Scrolls. The Freedom Fighters used it to locate some secret scrolls that could help them defeat Robotnik.

Lazaar's Computer
Created by the once dark wizard , the computer is a crystalline repository of countless forms of magic. Spells, curses, and other such powers are contained within the device, making it a dangerous tool. Even more dangerous is the fact that, were the computer destroyed, it would unleash unspeakable evil.

Lazaar made the computer to house his vast knowledge before placing himself in stasis. Protected by an arsenal of booby traps and his , it remained untouched for years. Eventually, however, Dr. Robotnik proved evil enough to bypass the defenses, enabling him to claim the computer.Tapping into the vast array of magic contained in the device, Robotnik used a teleportation spell to abduct Sally Acorn and Bunnie Rabbot. Using a spell of submission, he then turned them into his obedient slaves.

Lazaar, who had awakened to find his computer gone, initially blamed Sonic. Once convinced of the Hedgehog's innocence, Lazaar revealed that years of slumber had changed him; he no longer had a desire to do evil. Stripping Sonic of his speed, he dispatched the Freedom Fighter to retrieve his computer. Freeing Sally and Bunnie, Sonic was able to do so, returning the device to Lazaar. Grateful, the wizard returned Sonic's speed before departing, taking his fortress somewhere where neither it nor the computer would ever be found.

Chaos Cannon
Chaos Siphon
Created by Dimitri and Edmund, the Chaos Siphon was developed as a way to return Angel Island to the surface of Mobius. It was designed to drain energy from the 12 Chaos Emeralds that held the island aloft, allowing it to safely descend. However, the proposal was rejected, and Dimitri stole the device in rage. Using it, he destroyed 11 of the Emeralds, draining their powers into his body and driving himself insane. Dimitri was defeated, but remained alive through several centuries, coming to call himself Enerjak.

Later, when Mammoth Mogul achieved near omnipotent status and threatened Mobius, Athair delivered the Chaos Siphon to , who used it to drain Mogul's power, creating the Master Emerald. The people of Albion also copied the design to create a suit, using it in an attempt to drain the Chaos energy from Knuckles the Echidna. However, it was overloaded and rendered useless, creating Dr. Finitevus in the process, thanks to sabotage by Charmy Bee. Mogul later created his own room-sized version of the device, and attempted to use it to drain Chaos Knuckles. He succeeded, but the device was destroyed when Knuckles overloaded it by unleashing all his powers, killing himself in the process.

Chaos Spear

A physical weapon used by Hunter that works similarly to Shadow's attack of the same name. However, while many initially assumed it caused death, its bolts teleport its victims. Hunter used it to capture several echidnas on Angel Island, sending them to be used as fuel for Eggman's Egg Grapes. The Chaos Spear was seemingly destroyed when Knuckles stopped Hunter's attack. During the destruction of Knothole, Eggman and Snively used mechs that employed a laser that served as a modified version of Hunter's spear; those hit by by beam were teleported to the Egg Grapes.

Egg Grape Chamber
One of Dr. Robotnik's many creations, the Egg Grape Chamber is a room housing the Egg Grapes. Spherical pods, they are arranged as their name suggests, in the form of grapes on stalks. Intended as prison containers, the Egg Grapes have at one time held: Constable Remington, Dark Legion warrior Xenin, the Fire Ant Council, numerous other citizens of Angel Island and member of the Dark Legion, Mammoth Mogul, Ixis Naugus the Destructix, and the . Several of the Freedom Fighters were imprisoned there following Eggman's devastating assault on Knothole, including Sally Acorn, Bunnie Rabbot, Antoine D'Coolette, Rotor the Walrus, and the Chaotix (sans Knuckles but including Julie-Su and Rouge the Bat).

Essentially, the Egg Grapes are intended to draw energy from those contained within them to power Robotnik's operations, and are essentially a replacement for the now-useless Roboticizer. Prisoners contained within the grapes also have their memories slowly erased, as shown in the case of Charmy Bee and Remington. In order to supply him, he equipped his Overlander minion with a Chaos Spear weapon that teleported victims to the Egg Grape Chamber. The original Egg Grape Chamber was badly damaged when Ixis Naugus was freed from the Zone of Silence with the power of the Sword of Acorns. As a result, all of the prisoners taken by Hunter were pulled into the Zone of Silence. After overcoming them with the Egg Fleet, Robotnik transported Mogul, Naugus, and their minions to a new chamber. A.D.A.M. later released Mogul and Naugus, while the Destructix were freed by Dr. Finitevus, Scourge the Hedgehog, and Rouge the Bat. The Arachne, already drained of life force, were found dead by the time Finitevus' party arrived. Being imprisoned in the Egg Grape Chamber may also have resulted in Ixis Naugus being stripped of the greater portion of his intellect, reducing him to little more than a magically powered brute loyal only to Mogul. Upon learning of Enerjak's return from Sonic, Robotnik set to work modifying the remaining Egg Grapes.

The Egg Grapes would later come to hold all but a handful of the inhabitants of Knothole (including Mogul and Naugus once again) following Dr. Eggmans' blitzkrieg-like raid on the city, all of which were damaged when Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, and NICOLE mounted a rescue mission to save the prisoners. Apparently having learned his lesson, Robotnik had another cache of Egg Grapes prepared. However, to his chagrin, his teleportation beam was redirected to the city of New Mobotropolis by NICOLE-in other words, he enabled the escape of his greatest enemies. Later, when Sonic told Robotnik of the threat posed by Enerjak, Robotnik modified his remaining Egg Grapes and then captured Enerjak so he could use the Echidna's vast energies to power his own agenda. Unfortunately, Enerjak regained his senses quickly and in his escape the chamber, as well was much of the surrounding city, was again destroyed.

Freedom Fighter Special
Hyper Zone projector
The Hyper Zone projector was a device used by the Guardian Hawking to transport all life on Angel Island to alternate zones. This was done after the Dingoes launched a nuclear strike against Echidnaopolis in an attempt to wipe it out. The city was protected by an energy dome shield, but the radioactive fallout was poisoning the population on the Island. With all life safely transported to alternative zones, Hawking spent years fixing and restoring the Island to its former health and beauty. The effects of the Hyper Zone projector failed when Dr. Ivo Robotnik fired the Ultimate Annihilator, and the dimensional barrier holding the Echidnas and Dingoes faded, bringing both back into the prime zone on Angel Island.

O.T.I.S. (Outer Threat Immobilization System)
Quantum Dial
A device created by the Xorda, the Quantum Dial is a devastating weapon. When activated on a planet's surface, it begins to rotate like a sundial. As it turns, it opens a hole in the fabric of space and time. Upon completing its cycle, the Dial generates a massive black hole capable of consuming an entire planet.

After their gene bomb weapons failed to erase all life on Mobius, the Xorda returned centuries later. Discovering that their initial attack failed, the Xorda set up a Quantum Dial with the intent of erasing the planet from existence. Putting aside their differences, countless Mobians and factions of the same banded together. Working as one, the natives attacked the Quantum Dial, but found themselves countered by Xorda defenses. It was only Knuckles' timely revival and Sonic's seeming sacrifice that ensured the Dial's destruction. However, the dial's destruction caused a temporal anomaly that, rather than killing Sonic, warped him to a far-off planet across the universe.

Tachyon Displacement Chamber
Featured in Mobius: 25 Years Later, the Tachyon Displacement Chamber was created at some unknown point by Dr. Robotnik Mark II. When Mobius was threatened with destruction due to damage inflicted on the space time continuum, Rotor Walrus and Cobar concocted a plan to use the Chamber to send someone back in time in the hopes of collecting information that would help save the planet. However, the Chamber malfunctioned, and both King Sonic and Lara-Su were sent back in time.

As a result of the Tachyon Displacement Chamber's use, Mobius was altered. Shadow the Hedgehog became king instead of Sonic, becoming a despotic ruler over the planet. While Mobius was no longer in danger of being destroyed, no one but a handful of individuals remembered the original sequence of events. Aside from Lien-Da, leader of the Dark Legion, the only ones who managed this were Sonic, Lara-Su, Knuckles, Rotor, and Cobar, all of whom had in some way been exposed to the energies of the Tachyon Displacement Chamber.

Ultimate Annihilator
The ultimate weapon of the original Ivo Robotnik, the Annihilator was a device that could utterly erase any target from reality. Robotnik fired the Annihilator only twice; first as a test shot at an Overlander captive, and later to destroy the whole of Knothole village. The weapon was sabotaged by Snively Kintobor during his uncle's final duel with Sonic the Hedgehog, and its power was turned against the Annihilator control room, seemingly destroying Sonic and Robotnik in a single, titanic blast. However, the damage to the machine also saved Knothole, and Sonic's friends were able to save his life.

As a result of the Ultimate Annihilator's effects, several zones besides Mobius were effected. Barriers between certain zones were destroyed, facilitating the return of Echidnaopolis and the Dark Legion to Mobius proper. The Zone of Silence was also affected, allowing Ixis Naugus to escape briefly before being sent back by . Other zones suffered mutagenic effects, where the inhabitants were altered from their original states.

It was later revealed in a rather biased biography of Robotnik's (created by his alternate self, who would become Dr. Eggman) that the Ultimate Annihilator was designed years before it was actually constructed, during the Great War between Overlanders and Mobians. The original Robotnik was put on trial because of his plans to use the device on his fellow Overlanders to test it, and ended up fleeing a ten year prison sentence. He goes to the Kingdom of Acorn, thus setting him in position to begin his takeover that would only end in his destruction thanks to his own weapon.

Warp Ring
A device created by Dr. Finitevus using the corrupted Chaos energy he gained after failing to drain Chaos Knuckles of all his powers, the Warp Ring is essentially a portal resembling a Power Ring. Serving as instantaneous transport for anyone who uses it, it can seemingly penetrate any security measures and allow travel to any location, regardless of distance. Dr. Finitevus is the most common utilizer of these devices, having deployed them for a variety of tasks. These include rescuing Scourge the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat from the Freedom Fighters, liberating the Destructix from the Egg Grape Chamber, and possibly enabling another escape of Scourge's in which he was accompanied by Fiona Fox. Rouge also stole a Warp Ring to escape Finitevus, but it was later retrieved by Scourge and Destructix member Sleuth Dogg. Finitevus then gave a Warp Ring to Locke, who used it first to seek out the Brotherhood of Guardians, then later to abduct Sonic and Julie-Su in order to enlist their help in recovering a weapon to destroy Enerjak. Knuckles was also seen using one in issue 186 to travel to Albion to check up on the remaining Echindas under Remington's leadership.

Winged Victory
Sonic's personal biplane, the Winged Victory was given its name and a brand-new paint job when Sonic and Tails used it to set out after Ixis Naugus.
