Mike Flad

Mike Flad is the City Manager for Burbank, California. He officially took the oath of office in January, 2009. He currently provides leadership and direction for this full-service municipality with 1,500 employees and a $760 million dollar budget.

Flad began his career with the City of Burbank in 1988 as an Administrative Analyst, working in a variety of positions for the Finance, Risk Management, Community Development, City Manager’s Office and Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PR&CS) departments beginning in 1992.
The majority of Mr. Flad’s professional career has been with the City of Burbank. He worked as Assistant City Manager for the City of Ukiah, in Northern California from 1998-2000.
Actively involved in the community he loves, Mike has served on nearly two dozen committees and boards, including the Workforce Investment Board, the BUSD Partnership Advisory Committee, Traffic and Transportation Committee and various YMCA, and Boys and Girls Club advisory committees.
Over the years, his efforts have been recognized by various organizations and earned him several honors including, the League of California Cities Helen Putnam Award, the CSUN Award for Outstanding Public Service, the Boys and Girls Club’s Liz Shapiro Golden Achievement Award, the CPRS Community Service Award, the Optimist Club’s Community Service Award, and the Burbank Temporary Aid Center’s Top Award for Citizenship.
Flad is a graduate of UCLA, with a degree in Political Science. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University Northridge.
Born, raised and educated in Burbank, Mike has one daughter, Isabella.
