Mif Kumas is a fictional character of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
Mif Kumas was born on the planet Calibop shortly before the rise of the Empire. Raised during the Imperial occupation of Calibop, Mif lived in a perpetual state of terror, which reinforced his belief that a state of order and justice needed to be created. His height and physical structure made him an intimidating sight, though his calm words and his voice calling for change inspired countless Calibops to join the fight against the Empire. On Kumas' 30th birthday, the Calibops liberated their planet, following Emperor Palpatine's final death.
Kumas was immediately praised as the leader of the resistance. The New Republic installed him as the first governor of Calibop. He ratified the general election calling for his good friend, Ponc Gavrisom, to serve as senator to the New Republic. He led Calibop through the difficulties of the early New Republic, and openly supported Senator Gavrisom and Chief of State Leia Organa Solo on Coruscant.
Following the Corellian Insurrection, Senator Gavrisom was elected to take over Leia Organa Solo's position. Gavrisom asked Kumas to take over his seat in the senate, an offer he accepted. The planetary governor left his post and arrived on Coruscant, where he represented Calibop to the New Republic through the Caamas Document crisis, the wedding of Luke Skywalker, and other incidents throughout those three years.
When Gavrisom resigned his position, Kumas willingly stepped down as Senator, offering the position back to Gavrisom. Kumas still remained active in the Senate, serving as an aide to Senator Gavrisom and a political analyst during the election of 24 ABY. Following Borsk Fey'lya's election, Kumas was named sergeant-at-arms of the New Republic Senate.
Kumas oversaw Senatorial proceedings during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, and his post ended with Nom Anor's visit to the Senate. Kumas attempted to protect Chief of State Fey'lya, but lost a great amount of his dignity when the assassination attempt nearly succeeded. Kumas resigned in disgrace from his position and returned to Calibop, where he remains politically active on a local level.
