Michael J. Hickey

Michael J. Hickey is an American track athlete and coach. He began his distance running career at Hudson's Bay High School, where he finished first team all-state in cross country and track. As a junior college athlete at Clackamas Community College, Hickey won 2 individual NWAC Championships (cross country 1992 and 5k 1994), and contributed to 3 team championships. After Clackamas, Hickey competed for Washington State University and then trained under Bill Dellinger at the University of Oregon. Thereafter he coached distance runners for Nike.
Coach
At Colfax High School, he was a volunteer assistant coach for track and field. He coached 2 top three finishers at the WIAA Championships.
At Clackamas Community College, he was the head cross-country/assistant track & field coach. He coached 4 NWAC championship teams (1999, 2000 men’s cross country, 2000 women’s cross country, and the 2001 women’s track & field team.) He mentored twenty individuals to All-American honors. He was Coach of the Year for the NWAC Conference in 1999 and 2000.
At Portland State University (2000-2006), he was cross country coach and assistant track & field coach Eight of his athletes earned all-conference honors at the 2005 Big Sky Indoor Conference Championships.
At Camas High School (2009-2012) he was head cross country and assistant track & field coach. His girls teams won 2 Washington state titles (Best team in state history, based on average times of team) His girls team finished 13th at the NXN Cross Country Nationals.
Athletes
He coached Alexa Efraimson for Nike (Clark County, WA) in 2013. She won the 2013 NXN National Championship. Efraimson earned a bronze medal, placing 3rd in 4:16.07 at the 8th IAAF World Youth Championships. She was 4A State Champion (XC 2012 & 2013: Track 2013 & 2014 800m & 1600m), Washington State Meet. She set the National Record for 1600m: 4:33.29. In 2014 she ran a 2:03.26 outdoor 800m, setting the Washington State Record. In the 2014 outdoor 1,500m, her 4:07.05 was the 2nd fastest high school female athlete in US history. In the 2014 Indoor 3,000m, she ran a 9:00.16 (National High School Record). Her best 800m time was 2:01.11 in Belgium. In the 1500m, she clocked in at 4:03.39 at Prefontaine Classic (National High School and US 19U Record).
He coached Paul Kezes who ran 9:28 for 3200m at Sehome High School in 1998. In the 2005 outdoor 5000m he finished in 13:50.42. He placed 6th at the 2005 US Cross Country Championships. He was a Member of the 2005 US World XC Championship Team. His 2005 Outdoor Mile time was 4:02.10.
McKayla Fricker ran the 600m ind in 1:28.24 and the 800m in 2:00.81. She was the 2014 NCAA D2 National Champ at 2:06.10. Her 1500m time was 4:18.14.
