Michael A. Hartman (b. June 16, 1972) is an American CEO and President of Frogdice, Inc. He is known for the creation of Threshold RPG and the founding of Frogdice, Inc.
Biography From 1989 to 1991, Mr. Hartman worked for United States Senator Strom Thurmond in a variety of positions. His most interesting work involved research and speech writing, though he found it particularly difficult when faced with the task of researching political positions he did not share.
From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Hartman attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC., receiving a (BSFS) in International Law, Organization, and Politics from Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. At Georgetown, Mr. Hartman was a 4 year letterman on the Varsity Crew Team.
In 1996, Mr. Hartman created Threshold RPG which has become one of the most popular role playing required games on the internet.
In 1998, Mr. Hartman graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. Despite brief experience working in a law firm, he soon decided he wanted to strike out on his own in the computer game development industry.
Also in 1998, Mr. Hartman founded Threshold Virtual Environments, Inc., which was one of the first American companies to create commercial online RPGs and MUDs. The company also worked on non-game virtual environments for schools and businesses.
In 2004, Mr. Hartman founded Frogdice, Inc., which took over Threshold Virtual Environments with a more specialized focus on games and entertainment.
Mr. Hartman's first exposure to online gaming was through BBS Door Games while he was attending Georgetown University. He developed his own modules for a variety of RPG Door Games, which were marketed and sold to other BBS Operators. While attending the University of Georgia School of Law, Mr. Hartman worked on a MUD for the first time as a developer on Frontiers LP Mud.
Mr. Hartman received international attention in an article in Computer Games Magazine. He is a well known public figure in the online gaming, Massively multiplayer online game, and computer game development industries. He is particularly known for his strong opinions on a variety of game development and management issues, and a willingness to express those opinions openly and sometimes aggressively .
