Meredith Emerson

Meredith Emerson (died January 2008) was a 24-year-old woman who went missing and was presumed murdered while hiking with her dog on the Freeman Trail in Vogel State Park, located in North Georgia at the base of the Appalachian Trail. She was reported missing on January 2, 2008, and her body was discovered on January 7, 2008, at an undisclosed location in Dawson Forest wildlife management area. Emerson died from blunt force trauma to the head and was decapitated. Gary Michael Hilton of Georgia has been charged in her disappearance. Hilton was found cleaning his van of what looked like blood stains on Ashford Dunwoody Road in Atlanta, Georgia. Meredith's dog, Ella, was found wandering the parking lot of a grocery store in Forsyth County (approximately 60 miles from where Emerson was hiking), and was identified via a microchip implanted on her. Emerson's blood stained clothing and black wallet containing her drivers license and University of Georgia student ID were found in a dumpster in a convenience store parking lot, across the street from where the dog was found.
