Melinda Smith Bowman is an American politican that currently serves as the Chancery Clerk of Pearl River County, Mississippi. A Republican, Bowman defeated the incumbent Chancery Clerk in in the 2015 GOP Primary run-off on August 25, 2015, garnering 56% of the vote. She faced no opposition in the general election. Bowman's campaign emphasized fiscal responsibility and focused on a vow to not accept any income over the state allotted salary cap.
Bowman is a 1980 graduate of Pearl River Community College and a 1982 graduate of Mississippi State University. Before serving as Chancery Clerk, Bowman served as a deputy circuit clerk for four and a half years, as a public relations consultant, writer, and journalist.<ref name="electmelindabowman.com"/>
