Meiram Qajyken 2022 presidential campaign

Meiram Qajyken, professor at the Astana International Scientific Complex and leader of the Yntymaq party, began his campaign after submitting his candidacy to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on 4 October 2022 following his nomination by the "Amanat" Commonwealth of Trade Unions for presidency. After passing a series of qualifications he essentially became the second registered candidate on 15 October by the CEC after collecting approximately 122,184 signatures. Background Meiram Qajyken announced his candidature during an interview with the Vlast newsletter on 26 September 2022, although not ruling out that decision in being nominated would be made by the association itself and expressed that he would feel "no grievances". Qajyken embarked his intent on winning the 2022 presidential elections and bring in "comprehensive political, social and economic reforms" to Kazakhstan. On 3 October 2022, Qajyken revealed his presidential nomination from the "Amanat" Commonwealth of Trade Unions (AKD) after a joint meeting of the organisation's executive and central committee. From there, he voiced his support for "social partnership" with trade unions along with employers and entrepreneurs jointly solve social and economic nature issues as they're done in "civilized countries". In another subsequent interview to Vlast, Qajyken remarked his previous cooperation with the AKD along with other trade union associations and his interest of forming a "social partnership" would be one of the issues in his election programme, although not ruling out the need of adjusting it by "taking into account the wishes of supporters". Registration Qajyken submitted his candidacy documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on 4 October 2022, and underwent a required state language exam in which he was deemed as fluent in Kazakh by the linguistic commission on 8 October 2022. That same day, CEC declared his eligibility to contest the race and after garnering a total of 122,184 signatures with 120,055 being valid, Qajyken was officially registered as a candidate on 15 October 2022.
