Megan Kane

Megan Kane is a space exploration researcher known for her research in that field and for her viral campaign to become a participant in the Mars One project, whose goal is to put a person on Mars by 2023. As of December 30, 2013, she was known to be in the second round of candidate selection.
Announced in May 2013, the non-profit project asked for applicants that would want to spend the rest of their lives on Mars in the first ever colonization attempt of the planet. Before applications were cut off, the Mars One project received over 200,000 applications in a 5 month period.
Education and Work
Kane attended Lutheran High School in Springfield, Illinois. It was here in a geography class taught by Buzz Sperry that Kane became interested in space travel during a lesson about traveling from Europe to the "New World".
Kane holds a bachelor's degree in physics, math and computer science from Millikin University
Kane currently works at NanoSatisfi, Kane also replaced Timothy Heimann as the Executive Committee Treasurer for the International Space Safety Foundation in 2013.

Kane applied with a video on the Mars One application site, listing the reasons why she should be chosen for the Mars One mission along with hobbies and interests. The video lasted 1 minute, 8 seconds. On the Mars One site, under 'interests', is included: "Besides Mars, I have an eclectic assortment of interests. I love reading, writing and SciFi shows. My hobbies include art in many forms: painting, 3-D animation, dance, sculpture and martial arts. Agriculture, cooking, sewing, medicine, law and architecture are a few of my extracurricular interests."

Other
A of Utah also applied for the Mars One mission, but there is no known relation between the two Kanes.
