Mayor Eugenio Torrento Sr.

Eugenio T. Torrento Sr. (August 31, 1911 - March 30, 1983) was the Incumbent Municipal Mayor of Tigbauan a town in 1st District of Iloilo, a World War II Veteran of Philippines, Guerilla leader during World War II, a Policeman, Chief of Police, Councilor,Vice-mayor (1948-1955) and Elected as Municipal Mayor for 25 years (1956-1964 and 1968-1985). He was the longest serving elected mayor in the history of Tigbauan. And one of the longest-serving mayors in the Philippines. He served the Municipality of Tigbauan for half a Century in various capacities.
Biography
Mayor Torrento was Born August 31, 1911 in Sitio Tina-an,Parara Sur,Tigbauan,Iloilo, Philippines. A Roman Catholic. His Parents are Circiaco Tenefrancia Torrento and Francisca Torreflores Tolosa. He was married to Maria Tardaguela Terania. With his exemplanary services both in War and Peace,he was Awarded several Medallions; Trophies; Certificates; Plaques; Adoptions; Diplomas and Medals from Defense Department; Philippine Veterans Legion; Veterans Federation of the Philippines; Boys Scout of the Philippines; Comelec; Civil Service; DLGCD; University of the Philippines Iloilo; The Philippine National Red Cross; The Girls Scout of the Philippines; Biographical Researches Society of the Philippines; Department of Agrarian Reform; Department of Health; Sixth Military District World War II Veterans Association and the Public and Private Organizations.
Military career
Before he became a Municipal Mayor of Tigbauan, he served as a Patrolman in the Municipality of Tigbauan, a Chief of Police,Second Lieutenant,PA during World War II, Confidencial Agent of the Department of Defense,Special Agent, C.I.S.,Camp Crame,Quezon City.

1942 September 1-Inducted into Military Regroupment, Southern Iloilo Sector, under Major Rafael Almacen. Rank as Sergean<nowiki/>t, Organized and Incharge Procurement Section to take care of obtaining food supplies from the town people mostly through voluntary contribution.
1942 October 13- Promoted as Staff Sergeant and shifted to Battalion S-2, 1st Battalion 65th Infantry Regiment.
1943 February 13- Commissioned as 3rd Lieutenant with ASN-036277-QMS, assigned Division G-3 August 1, 1943 to October 31, 1943 under Major Alfonso Palencia, Co Division G-3, 6'MD.
1943 November to March 17, 1945- Liberation of Panay, transferred to as Battalion S-4 3rd Battalion 63rd Infantry Regiment under Col.Julian C. Chavez.
1945 March 19- Promoted as 2nd Lieutenan<nowiki/>t assigned as Supply Officer, MP Co.6'PSC (PA) at Camp Tiring, Cabatuan,Iloilo.
1946 April 1- Honorable Discharge with Excellent Service complete Clearance of all Accountabilities.
1964-1967 Investigator and Public Relation Officer, Department of National Defense.
Political life
After his Honorable Discharge from Military he became Vice Mayor of his Native Town for almost 8 years.
Because of his matchless performance he won's peoples faith toward the New Society of his Native Town Tigbauan. His Honesty and tactfulness and undying devotion to serve coupled with experience, propelled maximun efficiency in his performance as his town's Chief Executive. His Admiration which resulted to the creation of four New Barangays; Barangay Roads; Bridges; Municipal Hall; Health Centers; Barangay Halls; Artesian Wells; Irrigation; School Buildings; Seven Barangay High Schools; Electrict Plant; Monuments; Plaza Beautification; Aquaculture Center; Eliminate Cattle Restling; Campaigned for the Surrender of Thousand of loose firearms; Multi-purpose pavement; Multi-purpose Health Center; River Controls; Resorts; Rural Bank; Local Industries; Awarding Emancipation Title to seven hundred farmers occupants in the Zulueta Estate that redound to the progress and cultural prestige of his town are of monumental impact unmatched in the political epic of Tigbauan. He was a Multi-Awarded as The Most Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines by the different Sectors in the Philippines from Private and Government. After of his Death on March 30, 1983 the name of Parara Elementary School in his Baranggay of his Birth, was changed in honor of his name Mayor Eugenio T.Torrento Memorial Elementary School.

1956-1963 Elected as Municipal Mayor of Tigbauan,Iloilo.
1968-1971 Municipal Mayor of Tigbauan,Iloilo
1972-1975 Re-elected as Municipal Mayor of Tigbauan,Iloilo with the biggest majority.
1975-1985 Extended Re-elected as Municipal Mayor of Tigbauan, suddenly he died on March 30, 1983 as Incumbent Mayor.
Death
Mayor Torrento died due to Cardiac arrest. He was brought to Guimbal Hospital,Guimbal Iloilo early in the morning around 4:00 am March 30, 1983 but he was pronounced dead on arrival by the physicians.
