Maxwell Baumann

Born at Flinders Medical Centre on 18 July 1983 Max was brought up by his parents Violet and Barry Baumann in the south west Suburb of Flagstaff Hill. Max has two sisters (Nicole and Katarina)

Max attended Aberfoyle Park High School and graduated in 2000, moving into tertiary education. In 2001 Max started a Diploma of Environmental Management and did not complete it due to taking a break and becoming more involved in volunteer community organisations over the last half of 2002 into 2003.

In 2003 Max was an integral part of the Adelaide anti war campaign, becoming a member of the NOWAR planning committee and helping to organise Adelaide’s biggest rally ever with nearly 100,000 people

in attendance. Max was thrilled to invite one of his childhood heroes, (author Mem Fox) to address the rally.

Also in 2003, Max embarked upon further study in the IT field but had to quit due to a month long illness. In July 2003, Max became President of the South Australian Young Democrats

Max became heavily involved in politics in 2004 becoming part of the Democrats campaign team in South Australia working at Democrat headquarters and assisting the Campaign director’s assistant.

Max has been an active member of the community through:

* Supporting the Wilderness Society
* Supporting the World Society for the Protection of Animals
* Supporting Amnesty International
* Being part of the NOWAR SA planning committee. (Currently not a member but still support and go along to rallies and NOWAR events)
* Being a supporter of the South Australian Human Rights Coalition
* Keeping in contact with the City of Onkaparinga Northern Community Forum
* Membership of the Palm Sunday Peace Alliance (now known as PANAC)

At 23 years of age Max has had a humble upbringing instilled with values of compassion, tolerance, defending human rights and looking after the environment.

Max is passionate about ensuring that our hard fought for human rights and civil liberties are respected and protected

As a young member of society he understands the challenges of growing into a well rounded adult and firmly believes that young people deserve better youth advocacy services and recreational facilities as well as access to affordable education and health services.

Max is currently a TAFE student studying to become an Accountant and has recently completed a Certificate 3 in Financial Services (Accounts Clerical).

Max is currently the Vice President (PCC) of the Australian Democrats (SA) and Convenor of the South Australian Young Democrats.

In 2007, it was announced that Baumann would be the Australian Democrats' number two senate choice in South Australia for the forthcoming federal election.
