Maxine Valera is a fictional character on the drama series CSI: Miami. She is portrayed by actress Boti Ann Bliss.
Background
Valera was introduced to the show in season 2, episode 3. Not much is known about her background, since there is very little canonical information concerning her past in the show or on CBS' official website. Although at the beginning of season 2 Valera had only just been transferred, the show's writers changed her storyline in season 3 (when she was suspended) to suggest that she had worked at the MDPD for over five years.
Biography
In season 3, Valera accidentally added a rape victim's DNA into CODIS, and was suspended for incompetence as a result; she was reinstated in the first episode of season 4. In episode 425 ("One Of Our Own"), she was suspected of being the mole in the lab, but it was later revealed that Natalia Boa Vista was the culprit.
During season 5, Valera dated Natalia's ex-husband Nick, who assaulted her while she was on a lunch break. Trying to defend herself, Valera pushed Nick onto the floor and he passed out from a blow to the head; when Nick was later found dead, Valera was a prime suspect. However, it was later revealed that he didn't die from the concussion, and another man had, in fact, killed him.
In her relationships with team members, Valera sometimes shows a little undue fear towards Horatio and bickers with Ryan, but has a friendly working relationship with Calleigh, although it is suggested, accidentally or intentionally, that she has a crush on Eric Delko (series 6, episode 5).
