Mavis Taintor

Mavis Taintor is an American politician and businessswoman. She is also a 2019 candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates’ seat. She ran for the same seat in 2017, but was defeated in the Democratic primary.
Taintor is the co-founder of the $4 billion asset management firm, Callidus Capital Management. She serves on the board of Phoenix House of the Mid-Atlantic, a national drug rehabilitation organization, and is a founding board member of Save Rural Loudoun.
Taintor spent many years of her career in investment banking, working for major companies, including Citibank, Salomon Smith Barney, and JP Morgan. She is the co-founder and former co-CEO of $4 billion asset management firm, Callidus Capital Management, which was acquired by the Blackstone Group.
Taintor also taught as a Head Start teacher, and has lectured at the university level.
For the past decade, Taintor and her husband have owned and operated Bel Mont Farm, a horse farm in Waterford, Virginia.
Legislative priorities
;Healthcare
Taintor has stated that expanding access to healthcare for all Virginians is her first priority. She is particularly driven to increase access to mental health and addiction treatments, having lost a son to drug addiction.
;Infrastructure
Improving rural infrastructure is also a top concern for Taintor. She has stated that rural areas are overlooked when it comes to infrastructure. She wants to expand access to broadband, improve electricity reliability, and address road congestion.
;Education
Taintor aims to increase funding for public education. She hoped to provide a living wage to all teachers in order to attract additional talented educators to Virginia.
;Gun laws
Taintor supports that red flag laws aimed at preventing suicide, which allow police to confiscate firearms from people who pose a danger to themselves or others.
