Mauj Jamshedpuri

Mauj Jamshedpuri () also known as Mauj, is an Indian Urdu/Hindi poet and bollywood lyricist who lives in Kolkata. His association with Urdu poetry and ghazals started at the age of 14. He was the youngest poet invited in Mussaira by Lucknow University at the age of 17. His poetry primarily talks about irony of life and love with versatile subjects. His Ghazals “Chaand utar kar aa jaye shishe mein aur jaam ho jaye…..Teri surat si har gali mein aaj ek shaam ho jaye “ and “Rehnuma hota nahi hai koi bhi zaamane ke paas….Kya milega ghar tujhe kisi viraane ke paas” are popular in its own way.He published his first Ghazal in 2001, named “Aaina-e-Ghazal” reflecting the irony of life and love in different forms. He has also performed many live Mussaira in All India Radio and ETV Urdu.He is an ardent follower of eminent poet "Nida Fazli" and often his verses shows style and thoughts of Fazli.
He was once estranged to a controversy over a ghazal “Shaheed-e-Khuda", where he propagated negative views of Jinnah, later the ghazal was withdrawn from his next edition of publication “Talkiyaan”
He became popular with the title song in “Tarannum” in SAB TV. The ghazal “Aaksar logoen ko yeh hadsaa hota hai....Aajnabi sa jab khud se saamna hota hai..” written by Mauj touched millions of hearts.
He along with Kaysar Kaurat,Nusrat Badr, Prasanth Vasl and Rafiq Anjum were thought to be the new generation urdu shayars of India. Mauj along with his fellow poets (Kaysar & Rafiq) created a Poetry community called "Taqsiir" to save the dying art of Ghazal.
Though Mauj is from Eastern India, he has a huge fan following in Lucknow, Allahabad and Delhi.
Early life
Mauj was born and brought up in Jamshedpur, a small town in Jharkhand, India. He is the great grandson of Dwijendralal Ray, a well known bengali poet, playwright and musician. Owing to his orthodox Bengali Brahmin family, in his early days, he was discouraged to pursue Urdu poetry as a career option. Mauj's original name is Arnab Goswami and he have taken the taqallus "Jamshedpuri" as he was born in Jamshedpur. The meaning of his pen name "Mauj" is the literary meaning of his bengali name "Arnab", which mean "Tidal waves".
