Matthew William Skeen
(born June 11, 1985) is currently a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Hendrick Motorsports in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is also a NCHSAA and NCAA American Football Official. He went to Shiloh High School in Snellville, Georgia where he excelled in football and earned an athletic scholarship to play at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
Early Years
Skeen was born June 11, 1985 in Gainesville, Georgia and raised by his parents Steve and Mary Helen Skeen in Stone Mountain, Georgia. His involvement with football started at an early age due to his father being a high school football coach at various schools in Georgia for over 30 years. In high school Skeen played alongside David Pollack on the only team in school history to make it to the GHSAA State Quarter Finals. His senior year he was voted team captain and selected First Team All-County at the tight end position by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Gwinnett Daily Post after hauling in 21 passes for 321 yards in a run oriented offense.
College career
A four year Letterman, Skeen started 20 games at tight end and long snapper for the Runnin' Bulldogs. During those starts he caught 7 passes totaling 100 yards and 1 touchdown. He was twice voted All-Big South Conference as a long snapper.
NASCAR
In 2007, Skeen was hired as part-time Strength and Conditioning Coach with Hendrick Motorsports and was later promoted as the teams first full-time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. During his time with Hendrick Motorsports he has contributed to over 80 wins at the highest level of NASCAR as well as five Sprint Cup Series Championships with Jimmie Johnson, one Xfinity Series Championship with Chase Elliott and one Pit Crew Challenge Championship with the pit crew of Dale Earnhardt Jr..
Officiating
Skeen began officiating high school football in the greater Charlotte, North Carolina area in 2012. He began officiating for the NCAA in 2016 at the Division III level in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and USA South Athletic Conference.
