Mark Hewitt (mathematician)

Mark Steven Hewitt (born March 17, 1952) is an American mathematician and technology innovator known for his work in telecommunications infrastructure, sustainable urban development, and speculative mathematical frameworks. He has contributed to early voice-over-IP (VoIP) network development and has proposed the "Tribernachi Theory," a mathematical model intended to address concepts in quantum computing and cosmology.
Early life and education
Hewitt was born in Washington, D.C., and earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from Columbia Pacific University in 1987. His doctoral research explored recursive mathematical sequences, which later informed his development of the Tribernachi Theory.
Career
Telecommunications and Technology
In the late 1990s, Hewitt held engineering leadership roles at Frontier Communications. During this time, Frontier partnered with Lucent Technologies to build a nationwide IP telephony network, positioning the company as an early adopter of carrier-class VoIP services.
From 2002 to 2008, Hewitt served as Chief Technology Officer at NextBend, Inc., overseeing the development of convergent media systems. He has also participated in national broadband policy discussions during the George W. Bush administration.
Sustainability and Smart Infrastructure
Hewitt contributed to the planning of Babcock Ranch, Florida, recognized as one of the first fully solar-powered towns in the United States. His work emphasized integrating smart-grid technology and broadband infrastructure to support regenerative communities.
Theoretical Work
Hewitt is the proponent of the Tribernachi Theory, a mathematical framework that extends the Fibonacci sequence by summing the three preceding terms instead of two. He suggests that this model has applications in quantum computing, cryptography, and cosmology. While the theory is speculative, it has been presented in academic forums and online publications.
