Maria Dorai-Raj (born 8 July 1983) is an Irish jewelry designer. Early life and family Maria is of Irish and Indian parentage and was born in Galway in the West of Ireland. Fashion debut Maria began her technical skills training at the Alchimia School of Contemporary Jewellery in Florence, Italy, where she learned the goldsmithing techniques she uses today. With a degree in ceramic design and a background in luxury fashion, she was soon chosen for an apprenticeship with an established Irish jeweller in Dublin, where she continued honing her skills. Career In 2013, Maria launched her first jewellery collection. That same year her work was selected for ‘Create’, a prestigious Irish Design showcase held in Brown Thomas, of the Selfridges group and continued to feature in the showcase each year for two consecutive years. In 2015 Maria was commissioned to design a Silver Cuff for Ama Tech incorporating their patented credit card technology enabling the cuff to be used as a credit card as part of their Paywear range to be shown at ‘Money 20/20 2015’ in Las Vegas. In 2015 Maria’s jewellery line MARIA DORAI RAJ was shown as part of ‘UNFOLD’ design collective in the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London as part of London Fashion Week. ‘UNFOLD’ was an Irish design collective made up of 11 of Ireland's leading designers selected by a panel representing the Irish Design and Crafts Council as part of ID2015.
