Margaret A. Wilcox, (born 1838, Chicago, Illinois invented a combined clothes and dishwasher machine. Career and major contributions She was granted multiple US patents for her inventions. On November 23, 1893, she was granted a patent for "certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Heaters": the rail car heater consisted of a combustion chamber located under the rail car’s boarding platform, and pipes to transmit hot water. She has been incorrectly described as having "invented the first car heater". Wilcox's other patents include a combined clothes and dishwasher, bake pan, and a heater, which she invented in collaboration with Harry S. Stewart and patented August 8, 1905.
