ManPool

ManPool is an informal extension of Eight-Ball that is rapidly gaining popularity in the Sydney-metropolitan area. It is a variation that encourages players to play a manly game, or more correctly encourages them to agressive or high risk shots. Rolling up soft shots towards the pockets are exactly the type of shots that Manpool is designed to eliminate.

In short ManPool mandates that as well as the normal rules for fouls a shot is also a foul if the shot is deemed to be 'unmanly'.

Manly shots

# The forceful shot – a direct shot hit hard enough such that a ball going into the pocket will touch the back of the ball net.
# The Rebound. Any ball sunk on a rebound (even if it trickles in) is considered a Manly Shot
# The Cannon. Any ball sunk from a cannon is considered a Manly Shot (even if it trickles in). As well as the ball sunk the ball used as part of the cannon is removed from the table. A cannon must be “called” (it is not acceptable to play six pocket theory – a very Manly theory – and then claim cannon).

Foul exemptions

# The forceful shot sometimes means balls leave the table form being hit in such a Manly manner. In this event, all ball off the table remain off the table. If the white is forced off the shot is considered a foul and the opponent gets ball in hand.
# It is not necessary to use your own ball as part of the cannon. However be aware that you will remove your opponents ball if that is what you use for your cannon. Also be aware that if you initially strike an opponent’s ball attempting to do a cannon but fail with the cannon this shot is a ball-in-hand-foul.

Manly Saves

# If a ball is hit off the table, and a player catches the ball before it hits anything else (including floor, bystanders, chairs, etc) the ball may be placed back on the table in the centre dot, and the shot is considered a foul, so play turns over to the other player.
# Attempting a manly save on the black ball is considered a way of preventing your opponent an easy win. If you pull off a manly save on the black, you win the game. If case of dispute, see 'Disputes'

Forfeits

In the interest of keeping the game of manpool as manly as possible, unmanly behaviour results in a forfeit.

# Intentional soft shots where the aim is to cause a snooker is considered an act of unmanliness, and will result in a forfeit.
# Multiple unintentional soft shots are considered an act of unmanliness, and will result in a forfeit. The exact number of soft shots required to result in a forfeit is generally up to the audience, or the players in case of no audience.

Disputes

All manpool disputes should be settled by a show of physical strength, followed by a beer.

Gambling
Gambling is considered a manly activity, therefore gambling and Manpool go well together.
