Manhattan OS

Manhattan OS (pronounced man-hat-tan) is a computer operating system based on the
It is named after the United States Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb during World War II, and is distributed as free and open source software with additional proprietary software available. Manhattan attempts to provide a fun, virus-free, enjoyable operating system, with usability taking top priority. Manhattan is bundled with applications a majority of people need for "day to day" usage.
Manhattan OS is comprised up of a wide variety of packages, many of which are distributed under a free software license (also known as open source). The main license used is the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL) which, along with the GNU Lesser General Public License (GNU LGPL), explicitly declares that users are free to run, copy, distribute, study, change, develop and improve the software. Manhattan is currently developed by a single person, Kevin McDole, and eventually will be developed and distributed by Reactive Inc. While Manhattan and Reactive believe in the open-source ideology, they are not afraid to take and include other components if they "simply work". Manhattan OS is currently working on building a community, which is at the moment largely centered around Facebook and the Manhattan community forums. At the moment Reactive Inc., has no plans to sell Manhattan OS, instead intending to rely on donations and selling technical support.
Reactive currently supports and is involved in many open source projects. Many of these projects develop applications and are later bundled with Manhattan. The main open source projects that Manhattan is directly tied to are Avant Window Navigator and GNOME Do.
Reactive is still working on releasing their first version, (named Radium) which is currently in the Alpha phase. Following this Alpha phase, there will be two before a Release Candidate, with a projected release on July 1, 2010. The latest Alpha, Alpha 5, was released to the general public on May 12, 2010. Plans are already underway to release another rendition in the winter of 2010 (with an expected arrival in early 2011).
