Luidmila "Malina" Dimitrova (born June 19, 1945 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria - April 24, 2008 in Sofia) is a opera accompanist of Greek origin. Dimitrova graduated from the State Academy of Music in Sofia under Prof. Bogomil Sturshenov. She began her soloist career with recital appearances and concerts with orchestra throughout Bulgaria, but her real love - the opera - took the young pianist shortly after to the State Opera House of Plovdiv where Dimitrova worked on her first opera realisation „Pagliaci“ by Leoncavallo under Prof. Ivan Marinov. There she added general opera works like „Aida“, "Don Carlo“, „Traviata“, „Un ballo il maschera“, „Stifelio“ (Verdi), „Tosca“, „La boheme“, „Turandot“ (Puccini), „Samson et Dalila“ (Saint-Saens), „Carmen“ (Bizet) to her repertoire. During these first steps in her opera accompanist career Dimitrova met her husband, basso Stefan Dimitrov. Later, together with him, she followed an invitation for opera accompanist post-graduate degree at the Bolshoy Theatre in Moscow where, beside the regular opera titles, Dimitrova could refine herself in the Russian repertory under renowned conductors like Boris Haikin and Mark Ermler and worked on the stage realisation under the legendary Boris Pokrovski and his assistants. One of the most significant achievements of the young pianist during her post-graduate in Moscow was Tchaikovsky’s Official Birthday Gala Anniversary which took place at the composer’s house museum in Klin, where Malina Dimitrova accompanied some of the most known opera singers of Bolshoy Theatre - Elena Obraszova, Irina Archipova and Vladimir Atlantov. Late career Enlargng her repertory with opera titles like „Prince Igor“ (Borodin), „Boris Godunoff“ (Mussorgsky), „Ivan Sussanin“ (Glinka) She and Stefan Dimitrov came back to Bulgaria where they both became artists of the Rousse on Danube and Sofia National Opera Theatres. As such she took part in the stage realisation of „Boris Godunoff“ under the Bulgarian conductor Assen Naydenov in the National State Opera House in Sofia and of „Ivan Sussanin“ in Rousse on Danube. Numerous opera and concert appearances together with her husband and partner on stage Stefan Dimitrov in Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and in all Eastern Europe followed. With an unique stage realisation of the original version of „Boris Godunoff“ (Mussorgsky), its repeating two years later, as well as „Eugene Onegin“ (Tchaikovsky) began the long-years lasting successful co-operation of Maina Dimitrova with the Belgian Royal Opera Houses - „La Monnaie“ in Brussels and the „De Vlaamse“ in Antwerpen. Under conductors like Sir John Pritchard, Silvio Varviso, Machael Schonwandt, Silvain Cambreling and stage directors like Adolf Dresen, Kurt Horez, Piere Constant, the accompanist has worked beside this on the stage and concert realisations of „Il Trovatore“ (Verdi), „I Capuletti e i Montecchi“ (Bellini), „Turandot“ (Puccini), „Die Nacht der Walpurgis“ (Mendelssohn). Speaking more than four languages Malina Dimitrova worked during this period and later also as Coach of langue and Chef de chant together with singers like Jose van Dam, Lela Couberli, Martina Depuis, Vincenzo di Scola, Yevgeny Nesterenko and Ghena Dimitrova. Dimitrova and Stefan Dimitrov had one son - Liuben, who graduated as as solo pianist and became later part of the Genova & Dimitrov piano duo. The accompanist took part also at a number of studio and live recording sessions in numerous radio and TV broadcasting corporations in Bulgaria, Belgium, Netherlands, France.
