Major League Baseball All-Star Games in the Los Angeles Area

The Los Angeles area has hosted the Major League Baseball All-Star Game a five times between it's two franchises. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (Dodgers) hosted the game once, Dodger Stadium (Dodgers) hosted the game once, and Angel Stadium (Angels) have hosted the game twice with the third to be played in 2010. This is the most of any single metropolitan area that did not have a Major League team before the 1950s and tied for the most of any single metropolitan area after the 1950s (with Chicago). Angel Stadium in Anaheim will also be in a three-way tie with Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston for the most All-Star games hosted by an active Major League stadium after the 2010 game is held.
Game summaries
1959
*This was the first All-Star Game held west of St. Louis and was the second All-Star Game of the season with the first being held in Pittsburgh. This game was hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers who had just moved from Brooklyn the previous year and was played in the Dodgers' temporary home: the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The American League ended up winning 5-3 in front of a crowd of 55,105.
1967
*The second time the All-Star Game visited the Los Angeles Area was in then-Anaheim Stadium and was hosted by the area's American League team, the California Angels. The Angels had just opened Anaheim Stadium the previous year, and the the All-Star Game, the National League ended up winning 2-1 in 15 innings in front of a crowd of 46,309.
1980
*The third All-Star Game in the L.A. area was again hosted by the Dodgers, but this time at Dodger Stadium. The National League ended up winning this mid-summer classic 4-2 in front of a crowd of 56,088.
1989
*The last All-Star Game in the L.A. area was hosted by the California Angels at Anaheim Stadium. Although this was the second time Anaheim Stadium hosted the game, the stadium saw significant renovations in 1979 because of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams increasing the capacity greatly. The American League ended up winning the game 5-3, partially because of monstrous lead-off home run. The 1989 game was played in front of a crowd of 64,306—the largest crowd of any of the area's All-Star games.
2010
*The next All-Star Game will be held in Anaheim again at now-Angel Stadium, the first since the massive renovations in 1997.
