Prof. Maheri is a Professor of Structural and Earthquake Engineering at Shiraz University, Iran since 1991. Having obtained his PhD in Earthquake Engineering at the University of Bristol in 1987, he worked for King's College London as a research fellow. In 1989 he moved into industry, working as a senior consultant for W S Atkins Engineering Sciences, before taking a post at Shiraz University. He has a keen interest in research. His publications include four books and more than 150 scientific papers in international journals and conferences. He was awarded Shiraz University's 'Researcher of the Year' award in 2003 and 2006. He is also a member of the editorial board of a number of international scientific journals. Professor Maheri is a member of, and has been actively involved in, a number of Iranian national scientific committees including: * Permanent Committee of the Iranian Seismic Code of Practice (Standard 2800) * Iranian National Committee on Masonry Code of Practice * Committee of the Iranian National Guidelines for Seismic Retrofitting of Buildings * Committee of the National Guidelines for Seismic Retrofitting of Masonry Buildings He has also headed a number of committees for drafting Iranian National Standards on Concrete and Masonry. He is a founding and core member of the Iranian Centre of Excellence for Computational Mechanics. He has been cited in the 2005-2006 edition of the Who's Who in Computational Science and Engineering. Professor Maheri heads the 'Shiraz University Centre for Seismic Retrofitting' through which he actively consults government organizations and the private sector on retrofitting of buildings and other structures. Prof. Maheri's other interests include Archaeology and History. On these subjects he has published a book entitled "The Early Civilizations of Kerman" which won the Kerman Book of the Year Award in 2000.
