Madan Shivajirao Jagtap, born on 11 May 1962 in a middle class family at Bombale in Satara district. He successfully completed his B.Pharm. from Government College of Pharmacy, Karad in the year 1983. After completing his graduation he joined College of Pharmacy, Osmanabad, as a Lecturer and then continued to work in the academics at Satara Polytechnic, Satara. But unfortunately he met with an accident while travelling for college work in 1991. Due to spinal cord injury his both legs have been paralyzed. With the sheer will power he overcame this mishap. This accident has changed his life and inspired him to do something worthwhile for the society. He started Gourishankar Education Society, Satara on 27 May 1993. In the year 1999, society started B.Pharmacy course in Satara as Satara College of Pharmacy. In the following years the tree of society flourished and many useful courses such as Diploma in Pharmacy, DMLT, PGDMLT, English Medium Schools, Diploma in Agriculture, Diploma in Dairy and Information Technology were established. In the year 2006, he started Gourishankar Educational & Charitable Trust. Under this roof various courses like BCA, Degree Engineering (B.E.), Engineering Polytechnic, M.B.A., B.Ed., D.Ed. are running successfully. In all, Gourishankar Education Society is having 10 institutes while Gourishankar Educational & Charitable Trust caters education with 7 institutes in Satara. Four campuses viz. Degaon (10 acres), Limb (30 acres), Patkhal Matha (2 acres) & Nigadi (50 acres) are providing quality education. He made Satara an educational hub with the aim and objective of “Education for all”. In addition to this he is also engaged in participating in various social activities such as adoption of poor and needy students who unfortunately lost their parents. All the institutes run by society are approved and recognized by the apex bodies of their respective fields and are fulfilling the demands of the society with full expectations. Looking at the phenomenal growth of the society in shortest span, he is honoured by various reputed national & international organizations. Presently, he has 22 national & international awards in his kitty. Shortly, he is determined to start medical college in a campus of near Satara.
