LYNX Photonic Networks

LYNX Photonic Networks - Lynx is an optical communication solutions company. Its was the 2nd company after NTT-NEL to produce a solid-state PLC based optical switches used in such optical systems as ROADM, Optical performance monitoring and light management technology. These technologies were later incorporated into a stand-alone, fully managed all optical protection switching solutions, all optical switch matrices, dynamic wavelength connectivity (wavelength cross-connect, ROADM), fiber security, testing and monitoring.
The company is headquartered in Southern California; it holds its main R&D facility in Afek Ind Park, Ha'ayin Israel which is ISO-9001-2000 certified.
Between 1999 and 2007 Lynx raised ~$64 million from blue-chip private and corporate investors.
Corporate History
Lynx was founded in 1999 by Daniel Tal after leaving the Bird Foundation. Lynx later recruited Beni Kopolovitch from ECI Telecom at 2000 as its VP of R&D. He was later promoted to the roll of CTO & President and was in charge for most of Lynx protection developments.
Company's Evolution
Lynx has grown through several distinct phases. At its founding, Lynx was distinguished simply by its ability to make Optical PLC Switches, and its primary products were Optical Switches (PLC) modules.
Since the company was based on the concept of development it spent much of the years 1999 until 2004 trying to improved its manufacturing processes and produced a stable and wider range of products based on the PLC technology.
During 2004 Lynx gradually shifted if focus from the development of PLC module toward developing protection systems. At the end of 2004 Lynx released it first version of a Telcordia Certified Managed Optical Switch Systems platform the .
Electrical based solutions suffer from several limitations due to the nature of the , 's solution in comparison to components they have smaller availability, lower MTBF and higher cost (due to the requirement to double the electrical interfaces).
Lynx shifted its main effort towards developing a , based, protection system which will utilize the technology advantages of the solid state products over electrical ones.
Market history
The company's first products were a strictly non-blocking optical switches with n input ports and m output ports http://www.lynxpn.com/data/uploads/Brochures/Photon.8x8_Brochure.pdf Photon.8x8 modules.
Concurrently, Lynx engineers developed the Platform intended as a solution for small managed optical switching systems.
