Luiz Carlos Schwindt

Luiz Carlos da Silva Schwindt is a Brazilian linguist interested mainly in studies of phonology and morphology, and particularly in the relationship between these areas. He received his PhD degree in 2000 from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul advised by Leda Bisol; in 2001-2002, he performed posdoctoral studies at Autonomous University of Barcelona; supervised by ; in 2013-2014, he has been in a long term visit at New York University, in collaboration with Gregory Guy.
Schwindt is a Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Linguistics, Philology and Literary Theory at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, since 2002, and researcher of National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development since 2007.
In formal linguistics, his main contribution is the study of the interplay between inflection / derivation and prosodic constituents; in the field of language variation and change, the studies of vowel harmony and nasal reduction in Brazilian Portuguese are among his most significant researches.
