Early life Mondesi was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic as a son of a radio host and a secretary. After attending school at Cristo Redentor High School, Luis moved to the United States to persue his career as a Computer Scientist / Technologist. He studied liberal arts at Hostos Community College for about 3 years. Later, he transfered to City College of New York where he studies Computer Science. Work Worked as a Security Engineer for American Home Mortgage. Currently works as a System Administrator / Software Developer at Fotolog. Linux In the 1990s, Mondesi participated as one of the developers of the Debian operating system. Working mostly through a sponsor, and submitting patches and various bugs to both Debian and later Ubuntu. In 2005 started a bootsplash project that would show a graphical image while UNIX systems boot. The implementation of this would require no kernel patches and work solely on user space. The project was originally named "usplash" hinting to "user-space" boot splash.. However, because Ubuntu had internally been working on a similar project with a similar name, and since the specifications on the Ubuntu wiki were taking as the name of the binary, the project was eventually renamed to what we now know as Splashy.
